# Handling Feedback

Updated October 19, 2026

When anyone in a review asks for changes, the post goes back to its author and shows **Changes requested**. Editing the post shares a new version and starts the review again from its first stage.

## Reading a Change Request

1. Open **Approvals**. Posts with changes requested are under **In progress**.
2. Select the post.
3. Read the request in the conversation. It names who asked and quotes their note.

The person who sent the post for review is told when someone requests changes, along with the reason.

The conversation has two tabs:

* **Team only** shows your team's notes, your team's decisions and every new version.
* **Shared with client** shows exactly what your client sees, including their comments.

A client's change request shows on both tabs.

## Editing and Sharing a New Version

1. Select **Edit and share a new version**. You can also choose **Edit content** in **More review actions**, the three dots at the top right.
2. Make the changes in the composer.
3. Select **Update content** and confirm.

Saving a change to the content creates a new version and sends the review back to its first stage. The people in that stage are told, and the new version reaches your client when it gets to the client stage.

| What You Change | What Happens |
| ------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Caption, media, post type or other content | A new version, and the review starts again at the first stage |
| Only the scheduled time | No new version, and every approval stays |

The same applies to an approved post. Editing its content sends it back through the review before it can publish.

## What Changed

Each new version adds a **What changed** card to the conversation. It shows the caption word by word, with additions and deletions marked, and lists other changes such as media added or removed, media edits, the post type and the schedule.

The bar above the preview lists every version: **Original**, earlier versions and **Latest**. To go back to an earlier version:

1. Select the version in the bar.
2. Select **Restore** with that version's number, for example **Restore v2**.
3. Select **Restore** in the confirmation.

Restoring writes the earlier version back as a new version. Nothing is deleted, and the review starts again at the first stage. Only your team can restore a version.

## Replying

Choose the tab before you type.

* On **Team only**, the box reads **Note for the team only...** and only your team sees what you write.
* On **Shared with client**, the box reads **Message everyone in the review\...** and your client sees it too.

Select the paperclip to attach an image, then select **Send**. A reply does not approve the post or clear the change request.

## When the Feedback Changes

* The person who asked for changes can take it back. On your team that is **Retract changes request** in **More review actions**. A client selects **Retract your changes request** on their page.
* A Manager can override the review with a reason, which approves the post and skips the remaining stages. See [Team Approvals](https://maevesocial.com/guides/approvals-and-clients/internal-approvals).
* If you no longer need the post, select **Withdraw from review** to return it to draft. **Cancel review** sends every pending post in the review back to draft.

## Collecting Files From a Client

Your client can attach one image to each comment. For full-size originals, send them a [client upload link](https://maevesocial.com/guides/media/collecting-media-from-a-client), add the image to the post yourself, then share the new version.

## Questions

### What happens if I edit a post the client already approved?

It becomes a new version and goes back through the review from the first stage. Your client sees what changed since the version they approved.

### Does changing only the scheduled time reset approvals?

No. A time change does not create a new version, and every approval stays.

### Does the review pick up from the stage that asked for changes?

No. Every new version starts again at the first stage.

### Where do my client's comments appear?

Open the post in Approvals and select Shared with client. That tab shows exactly what your client sees.

### Can a client send a file with their feedback?

They can attach one image to a comment, as a JPEG, PNG, WebP or GIF. For full-size originals, send them a client upload link.

### Can I go back to an earlier version?

Yes. Select the version above the preview and restore it. It comes back as a new version, and the review starts again at the first stage.

### Is a post with changes requested deleted?

No. It keeps its content, versions and conversation until you edit it or take it out of the review.
