An Instagram report shaped like Instagram, not like a generic deck.

An Instagram monthly report works best when it follows the platform's own shape: account overview first, then feed and Reels performance, then Stories, then the top posts with takeaways, and finally the posting windows that worked. This template carries exactly those sections, using the metric names Instagram Insights uses, so filling it in is transcription rather than translation.

Download the CSV and it opens straight into Google Sheets or Excel. If you report on more than Instagram, the monthly all-platform template linked below is the wider version of the same structure.

What Is In The Template

Every section below is a labeled block in the CSV, in this order. Fill them top to bottom and the report writes itself in the right shape.

01

Account Overview

The month at account level, straight from the Insights overview screen.

  • Net follower change
  • Accounts reached
  • Profile visits
  • Website taps
  • Each versus last month
02

Content Performance

How the formats compared, because a month where Reels carried reach and carousels carried saves needs to say so.

  • Posts published by format (Reels, carousels, single images)
  • Reach by format
  • Saves, shares, and comments by format
03

Stories

Stories work is invisible in most reports. Give it four honest numbers.

  • Stories published
  • Average views
  • Replies
  • The story that held attention best
04

Top Posts

The three posts that earned the month, each with the reason, so the win is repeatable.

  • Post
  • Format
  • Result
  • Why it worked
05

Timing

Which posting windows actually performed, compared against what you expected going in.

  • Windows posted into
  • Windows that outperformed
  • Change for next month
06

Next Month

What the numbers change about next month's plan.

  • Action
  • Owner
  • What success looks like

How To Use It

1. Open Insights once

Instagram's Insights hold everything this template asks for: the overview screen for account numbers, the content tab for per-post and per-format results.

2. Compare formats honestly

Split results by Reels, carousels, and single images. The format comparison is usually the most useful finding in the whole report.

3. Close the timing loop

Note which posting windows actually performed and adjust next month's schedule to match. Timing findings are worthless unless they change the calendar.

Instagram Monthly Report Template FAQ

What metrics belong in an Instagram monthly report?

Net follower change, accounts reached, profile visits, and website taps at account level; reach, saves, shares, and comments by format at content level; Stories views and replies; and your top three posts with the reason each worked. All of them come from Instagram Insights.

Where do I find these numbers in Instagram?

On a Professional account, open the menu on your profile and go to Insights. The overview screen carries the account metrics, and the content section breaks results down per post and per format. Most figures let you compare against the previous 30 days.

Is this template free, and does it need an account?

Free, no account, no email gate. Download the CSV, open it in Excel or import it into Google Sheets, and fill it in from Insights.

What if I report on more platforms than Instagram?

Use the monthly social media report template instead, which carries the same structure across every platform, or run both: the all-platform report for stakeholders and this one when Instagram is the account that needs the close look.
