Every platform renders images at its own sizes, and a few of them change every year. This page holds the current numbers for the seven platforms most people publish to, and each platform links to a full page with every format: profile photos, covers, feed posts, stories, and ads.

Each page covers the full set for its platform, with the numbers in tables and the crop traps called out: which edges get trimmed on mobile, where the interface covers the frame, and which sizes changed recently.

Most platforms render feed images at 1080 pixels wide. The strongest defaults are 1080 x 1440 (3:4) on Instagram, 1080 x 1350 (4:5) on Facebook, 1200 x 1200 on LinkedIn, 1200 x 675 (16:9) on X, 1000 x 1500 (2:3) on Pinterest, and 1080 x 1920 (9:16) for every vertical video format.
A few change most years, which is why guides go stale. The biggest recent change is Instagram moving its profile grid to a 3:4 preview and adding native 3:4 uploads. The sizes on these pages were checked against current platform documentation in July 2026.
Almost. A 1080 x 1350 portrait works well on Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn feeds, and 1080 x 1920 covers every story, reel, and short. Covers and banners are the exception: each platform's is a different shape, so those need their own crops.
Usually the upload is smaller than the display size, so the platform scales it up, or it is so large that the platform compresses it aggressively. Upload at the recommended pixel size, keep files under each platform's limit, and use PNG for images with text.
