Connecting and Publishing to LinkedIn

Updated

Connect your LinkedIn profile to publish as yourself, or connect a company Page to publish as that organization. A profile and a Page each use one social connection.

Profiles and Pages

Choose a profile or Page connection according to who should appear as the author.

Profile connections are available for LinkedIn accounts. Page connections must be enabled for your Maeve organization. If the Page option is unavailable, contact support to request access.

After connecting, select the profile or Page in the composer.

Connecting a Profile

  1. 1

    Open Settings, then Social channels

Select LinkedIn from the connection grid.

  2. 2

    Sign in on LinkedIn

Sign in on LinkedIn's sign-in page. Maeve does not receive or store your password.

  3. 3

    Approve the permissions

LinkedIn asks to read your profile and post on your behalf. Both are needed.

  4. 4

    Confirm the Connected Profile

Maeve shows the name and picture it connected. If it is not you, you were signed into another LinkedIn account in that browser.

Connecting a Page

  1. Check that Page connections are enabled for your Maeve organization.
  2. Open Settings, then Social channels, and choose the LinkedIn Page connection option.
  3. Sign in to LinkedIn and approve access.
  4. Select the Pages you want to add to the workspace.

Your Page access must be approved and include permission to publish. If a Page is missing, check your role in LinkedIn. Analyst access does not allow publishing.

Each selected Page uses one social connection. If only one Page is available, Maeve connects it automatically.

Publishing and Analytics Are Different Roles

Publishing access does not always include Page analytics. Maeve requires the LinkedIn Administrator role to read Page analytics.

If you can publish but cannot load analytics, check your Page role. Ask a Page administrator to update your access, then reconnect the Page in Maeve.

What Maeve Asks Permission For

The requested permissions depend on whether you connect a profile or a Page.

Media for LinkedIn

0 of 10 selectedUp to 10 photos, or one video, never both

LinkedIn has no settings panel. The caption and the media are the whole post.

What LinkedIn gives you in the composer, and what it asks for. Every limit here is the one Maeve checks against, not the one the network advertises.
  • Text. On its own, up to 3,000 characters
  • Images. Up to 10 on one post
  • Video. One per post, and it cannot share the post with images
  • Links. Put the URL in the caption and LinkedIn creates the link preview, but only on a post with no media. Attach an image and the link stays as plain text

LinkedIn has no stories and no Reels. Everything is a feed post.

Use Maeve's API, CLI, or MCP tools to create polls, link articles, and document posts. These formats are not available in the composer.

The Limits

WhatLimit
Caption3,000 characters
Comment1,248 characters
Images per post10
Videos per post1
Aspect ratios1.91:1, 1:1 and 4:5

LinkedIn checks file size and video duration when the post is submitted. If it rejects a file, read the error in Failed Posts and check the file before retrying.

The composer allows 10 images per post. Posts created through the API can contain up to 20 images.

What Will Stop a Post

  • Images and video in the same post. LinkedIn takes one or the other
  • More than one video. One per post

LinkedIn will refuse

LinkedIn posts cannot mix videos and images.

What LinkedIn sends back, word for word. These are the strings Maeve shows you, so searching this page for the one on your screen should find it.

When the Connection Breaks

If an account shows Needs reconnecting, restore its connection before the next scheduled post is due.

  1. Open Settings, then Social channels.
  2. Find the affected account and select Reconnect.
  3. Sign in to the same account and approve the requested permissions.

Reconnecting keeps scheduled posts attached to the account. After reconnecting, retry any posts that failed while the connection was unavailable.
