Content Tables

Updated

A Content table shows posts as rows. Open a row to work on the post itself, or use the table to compare statuses, dates and your own planning fields.

Add Rows

  1. Open a Content table in Workbench.
  2. Click New row to create a draft, then enter its title in the Title cell.
  3. To include a post that already exists, click Add existing post and choose it from the picker.

The same post can appear on several tables, but only once on each table. Removing its row from one table does not delete the post.

Read the Live Columns

A new table starts with these columns.

ColumnWhat It Shows
TitleThe post's title, which you can edit here
StatusThe post's current stage
Date ScheduledIts scheduled date
Date PostedIts published date
AssigneesPeople assigned to the post

Status, Date Scheduled, Date Posted and Assignees have a lightning icon because they read the post's current values. You cannot edit, rename, delete or change the type of these live columns. Open the post to make the corresponding change.

Editing Title renames the post, including where it appears on other tables.

Add Custom Columns

  1. Click the plus button at the end of the column headings.
  2. Choose Text, Select, Multi-select, Date, Checkbox or Person.
  3. Use the column menu to rename the column and configure its options.
  4. Enter values in its cells.

For example, add a Checkbox column called "Shot list ready" to track preparation. Custom fields do not change a post's publishing status or schedule.

Drag columns to reorder them, or drag their boundaries to resize them. If you change a column's type, review the warning about incompatible cell values before confirming.

Choose a View

Click a view tab above the table. New tables have All Content and Next 7 Days pinned. Click the plus beside the tabs to open the view library and pin other views.

ViewWhat It Shows
All ContentActive rows, ordered by publish date and grouped by month
Next 7 DaysUnpublished content dated within the next seven days
BacklogUnpublished content without a publish date
Waiting on ClientContent with an active or outdated client review
Waiting InternalContent waiting for internal review
Needs AttentionContent with changes requested, a publishing failure or a readiness issue
PublishedPublished content, newest first
Ready / Not ReadyContent with a readiness result, sorted by that result
RepurposesContent created by reusing an earlier post
ArchivedRows archived from this table

The publish date used by views is the actual published date when available, then the scheduled date, then the planned date.

Filter, Sort and Group

Use the view bar to filter by status or assignee. Click a column heading and choose Sort ascending or Sort descending from its menu.

Open Group by to choose None, Month, Stage, Campaign Phase, Assignee, Pillar or Format.

Your active view, grouping choice and collapsed groups are personal. Filters and sorting are saved to the view and shared with other people using it.

Save a Custom View

Changing the filters or sort of a built-in view creates a custom copy and switches you to it. The built-in view keeps its original settings.

To create a named view yourself:

  1. Set the filters, sort and grouping you want.
  2. Open the view library with the plus beside the tabs.
  3. Choose New custom view and enter a name.
  4. Click Create view.

Use a custom view's menu to rename, duplicate or delete it. Built-in views can be unpinned but cannot be deleted.

Manage Rows

Open a row's menu to choose an action.

ActionResult
Remove from this tableRemoves this row and keeps the post elsewhere
Move to another tableMoves the row and clears its custom cell values
Archive rowMoves the row to this table's Archived view
RestoreReturns an archived row to the end of the table
Delete content everywhereDeletes the content in Maeve across its table placements and channel versions

To clear published rows together, choose Archive published rows and confirm. Check the result for any rows that were skipped.

Use the arrow keys to move between cells and Enter to open the selected cell. When manual reordering is available, drag a row by its handle to move it.

Who Can Edit

Managers and Editors can edit cells, manage columns and save views on tables they can access. Other workspace roles can read accessible tables and switch between pinned views.

Questions

What is a content table?

A Workbench page that shows posts as rows. Open a row to work on the post, or use columns and views to organize your plan.

Does removing a row delete the post?

No. Remove from this table removes that row only. Delete content everywhere is a separate action that deletes the content in Maeve.

Can the same post be on two tables?

Yes. A post can appear on several tables, but only once on each table.

Why can I not edit the Status column?

Status reads the post's current stage. Date Scheduled, Date Posted and Assignees also read the post. Open the post to change those values.

What column types can I add?

Text, Select, Multi-select, Date, Checkbox and Person.

Do my own column values move with a row?

No. Moving a row to another table clears its custom cell values. The destination table has its own columns.

What views does a table come with?

All Content, Next 7 Days, Backlog, Waiting on Client, Waiting Internal, Needs Attention, Published, Ready / Not Ready, Repurposes and Archived.

Can I edit a built in view?
