Moving a Card Between Columns

Updated

You can drag eligible cards between Idea and Draft. Review, Scheduled, and Published follow the post's workflow and cannot be set by dropping a card.

Drag Between Idea and Draft

  1. Find an unarchived Idea or Draft card that has no active channel versions.
  2. Drag it over Idea or Draft.
  3. Release it when the target column highlights.

At rest in Idea. The grab cursor is the only sign it can move.

Dragging a card from Idea to Draft. The card under the cursor is an ordinary copy of the card, not a tilted one, and the column being aimed at is the only thing that changes. Review, Scheduled and Published look the same throughout because they never accept a drop.

You need Creator, Editor, or Manager access to move eligible cards. Viewers cannot move them. Organization Admins and Owners inherit Manager access.

Dropping a card into its existing column makes no change.

Scheduled once and reverted to draft. The channel versions stay, so the stage is worked out from them now.

Status: Draft

Greyed out, on the card that does not. The chip still names the stage, it just will not open, and the same is true in Review, Scheduled and Published.

Two cards in Draft. The left one drags and the right one does not, because it was scheduled once and reverted, so its channels hold their own versions of the post. On the board the only difference is the cursor. In the composer, the status chip greys out.

Choosing channels in the composer does not always create channel versions, so a card can show channel icons and still be draggable. Once active versions exist, use the post's workflow controls instead.

Content promoted from the Grid Planner can already have a channel version, even when it is still a draft.

Change the Stage from the Post

  1. Open the card.
  2. Choose the action you need in the composer or approval workflow.
  3. Complete the action and check the card's updated column.

Return Content to Draft

For scheduled content, open the composer and use Revert to Draft when that action is available. This removes the scheduled publishing action and keeps the content as a draft. Schedule it again if it should publish later.

For an internal approval request, open it in Approvals and use Withdraw when available. The controls depend on your permissions and the review's state. See Internal Approvals.

You cannot drag a published card back to Draft. Moving a card on the Board does not remove a post from the social network.

Use the Keyboard

Focus a card and press Enter or Space to open it. For an eligible idea or draft, use the composer's status control to choose Idea or Draft. The Board does not provide keyboard drag controls.

If a move fails, refresh the Board and check the post again. Another change may have created a channel version or changed your access since the card loaded.

Questions

Which cards can I drag?

Unarchived Idea or Draft cards without active channel versions. Individual channel cards cannot be dragged.

Why will this card not drag?

Check your role, the stage, archive state, and whether active channel versions exist. Open the post to use the appropriate workflow action.

My card shows channels but it still drags. Is that a bug?

No. Selecting channels does not always create channel versions. A card remains movable while it meets the manual-stage conditions.

Can I drop a card into Review, Scheduled or Published?

No. Open the post and request review, schedule it, or publish it through the appropriate controls.

How do I get a card into Scheduled?

Open the post, set a publishing time, and confirm scheduling.

How do I move a card backwards?

Use Revert to Draft for eligible scheduled content. For an internal review request, use Withdraw in Approvals when available.

Can I drag a published card back to Draft?

No. The Board cannot reverse a published post by dragging it.

Can I move a card with the keyboard?

Open the focused card with Enter or Space, then use the composer's status control for an eligible Idea or Draft. Keyboard dragging is not available.

Who is allowed to move cards?

Creators, Editors, and Managers can move eligible cards. Viewers cannot.
