Select an Instagram account in Grid Planner and use Planning to arrange content before publishing. You need Editor or Manager access to change the grid.

Title (optional)
Add Media
- Click an empty Planning slot or Add visual mockup.
- Choose media from the Media Room or upload files using the source picker.
- Open the tile to review its media.
- Use the carousel controls to add, remove, or reorder media when available.
The first media item determines the tile preview unless an eligible cover has been set. A media mockup supports up to 10 media items.
Add a Placeholder
- Open the source picker from an empty slot or Add visual mockup.
- Choose the placeholder option.
- Enter a title of up to 40 characters and choose a color.
- Click Add placeholder.
Use a title such as Product launch to reserve a position before you have the
media. A placeholder does not create a publishable post.
Place an Existing Draft
- Find the draft in the Drafts tray for the selected account.
- Drag it into an empty Planning slot.
- Open the linked tile when you want to continue editing the post.
Drafts already linked to a planner tile are removed from the available tray. Placing a draft on the canvas does not schedule it.
Move a Tile
Drag a planner tile to another slot. Moving into an empty slot leaves the old slot empty. Moving onto an occupied planner slot swaps the two tiles.
For keyboard dragging, focus a draggable tile, press Space, use the arrow keys, and press Space again to drop it. Press Escape to cancel.
Moving a linked tile changes its planner position, not its publishing time. Use Coming up or the composer to change a schedule.
Add or Remove Rows
Use the plus control beside Planning to add a row of three slots. The canvas starts with 9 slots and can grow to 36 slots.
To remove a row, move planner items out of the top row, then use the minus control. You cannot reduce the canvas below three rows. Row controls are also disabled while a drag or row update is in progress.
Create Content When Ready
Open a media mockup and click Create content to turn it into a draft. Review the caption and publishing settings before scheduling it. See Turning a Plan Into a Post.
Planning can also contain linked scheduled posts and future manual feed items. A tile's position alone does not tell you whether it has a publishing time; check the linked post's status.
Questions
How many slots does the canvas have?
The canvas starts with nine slots and supports up to 36, in rows of three.
Why nine to start?
Nine slots is the default canvas size. Use the plus control beside Planning to add rows.
Why can I not remove a row?
The top row must be empty, and at least three rows must remain. Finish any drag or pending row update before removing a row.
What can I put in a slot?
Add a media mockup or placeholder, or drag an available draft into an empty slot.
How many images can one tile hold?
A planner media mockup supports up to ten media items.
What is a placeholder for?
A placeholder reserves a position with a color and an optional title before the media is ready.
Can I plan without a mouse?
Yes. Focus a draggable tile, press Space, move with the arrow keys, then press Space to drop it. Escape cancels.
Do tiles on the canvas have dates?
Visual mockups and placeholders have no publishing schedule. Linked posts can have scheduled times, and future manual feed items have their own placement dates.
